Elections to the National Assembly in 1996

At the 1996 parliamentary elections the following political parties entered parliament (2.5% threshold):

  • LDS (Liberal Democratic Party) - 27.01%
  • SLS (Slovenian People's Party) - 19.38%
  • SDS (Social Democratic Party of Slovenia) - 16.13%
  • SKD (Slovenian Christian Democrats) - 9.62%
  • ZLSD (Associated List of Social Democrats) - 9.03%
  • DeSUS (Democratic Party of Pensioners of Slovenia) - 4.32% (a new party)
  • SNS (Slovenian National Party) - 3.22%

One deputy each was elected to represent the Italian and Hungarian ethnic communities. They were elected by members of these ethnic communities according to the majority system.

The number of counted votes: 1.136.211.
